Oura without a membership: what still works?

Short answer
Without a membership, Oura Gen3 and newer show only three scores, battery, profile, settings and Explore. Apple Health sync stops. You can still export data.
Without an active membership (Oura's monthly or annual subscription), the Oura app for a Ring Gen3 or newer shows only your Readiness, Activity and Sleep scores, the ring battery, basic profile information, app settings and the Explore content. On these rings, Oura's Apple Health sync and its API (the interface that other apps use to read your Oura data) need an active membership, but you can still export your data.

The Membership Hub is the page where you view your plan, update your payment and export your data. Two members in a July 2026 thread on r/ouraring, the Oura community on Reddit, report that without a membership the app shows the three score numbers, but not the details behind them, such as heart rate, time asleep or calories burned. Oura keeps your data unless you delete your account. When you renew, Oura says your data and account information are accessible again at once.
Steps
Use these steps on your iPhone to check your membership and save a copy of your data.
- In the Oura app, tap the menu in the upper-left corner of the home screen.
- Tap Settings. Scroll to Account. Tap Manage membership. The Membership Hub opens.
- Under Current plan, check your membership status, your plan and your next payment date.

To end a membership, tap Cancel membership in the Membership Hub. After the free first month, Oura says you keep access to the end of your billing period. To keep your data, do not tap Delete account and all data: Oura says it permanently deletes your account and all account data.
If it still doesn't work
- Apple Health or another app stopped getting Oura data
Check your membership status, as in step 3. If the Membership Hub shows your membership as canceled, use its option to renew. If you do not renew, you can still export your data, as in step 4.
- Oura data does not reach Apple Health with an active membership
Why this happens
Oura lists detailed analysis, reports and third-party apps under what an active membership includes. Its Apple Health page lists the sync as available for Gen3 or later with an active membership.
Questions
Does an Oura ring keep recording without a membership?
The Mozilla Foundation's privacy review of June 2026 says yes: your data is still tracked and uploaded without a subscription. Oura's pages cited here do not say. Mozilla also says you can get your data only through a data request. Oura says you can see three scores and download your data through the Membership Hub, so the two pages differ on how you reach your data.
Does an Oura membership transfer to a new ring?
Yes. Oura links a membership to your Oura account, and it transfers as soon as you pair the new ring with the Oura app.
Does Oura Gen2 need a membership?
No. Oura says Gen2 users do not need a membership and are not charged membership fees, and its Apple Health sync works on Gen2. Oura notes that many features of later rings do not work on Gen2.
Can you pause an Oura membership?
No. Oura says there is no option to pause a membership. You can cancel, and renew after the end of your current billing cycle.
What is an Oura Lifetime Membership?
Some Gen3 members have one from a past promotion. Oura says it stays free as long as you keep the same active Oura account, and that there is currently no option to buy one.
