Data from Oura stops on its way to Apple Health until the steps below fix it. Biomon reads Apple Health.

Short answer

In the Oura app, turn on Connect to Health menu then Settings then Apple Health, allow the data types on your iPhone, then open Oura so it syncs.

Oura writes to Apple Health only when you turn the integration on and the Oura app has synced. Most gaps come from a permission that is off or an app that has not opened.

See the 6 steps

Steps

  1. Update the Oura app and your iPhone's iOS.
  2. In the Oura app, tap the menu icon in the upper-left of the home screen, then tap Settings then Apple Health (under Data sharing).

    Step 2

    In the Oura app

    1. Settings
    2. Apple Health
  3. Turn on Connect to Health. Turn on Save Mindful Minutes to Health too if you want those.
  4. On the iPhone permission screen that appears, turn on the data types you want Oura to write, such as Sleep, Heart Rate, Steps, Active Energy and Workouts, then tap Allow.
  5. Open the Oura app and let the ring sync. Oura says Apple Health updates after you finish an activity or workout, and its blog notes that data syncs only after you open Oura.
  6. To check or change what Oura may write later, open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then under Privacy tap Apps then Oura. You can also go to iPhone Settings then Health then Data Access & Devices then Oura.

    Step 6

    In the Health app

    1. Apps
    2. Oura

    or

    In the iPhone Settings

    1. Settings
    2. Health
    3. Data Access & Devices
    4. Oura

If it still doesn't work

  • Reset the integration

Oura's fix is to update iOS, turn every switch in Oura's Apple Health setting off and back on, then restart the iPhone.

  • Keep Oura able to run

Open the Oura app at least once a day before midnight, keep Background App Refresh on for Oura, and keep Low Power Mode off.

  • Check the source list

In the Health app, tap Browse, choose a category such as Sleep, then tap Data Sources & Access. Oura should appear and have a checkmark. If another source sits above it, that source takes priority; tap Edit and drag Oura up if you want its data used.

  • Check your membership

Oura's help page lists an active membership as a requirement for Gen3 and newer rings.

Why this happens

Oura doesn't stream data to Apple Health. The ring syncs to the Oura app, and the app then writes to Health, so anything that stops the app opening or running in the background delays the data. Apple Health also ranks sources for each data type, and the source at the top wins when two overlap, which can make Oura's numbers look missing when another app or an Apple Watch is ranked higher.

Questions

What does Oura write to Apple Health?

Oura's help page lists active energy (not resting energy), heart rate in one-minute intervals, height, mindful minutes, average nighttime respiratory rate, sleep with stages, steps, weight, workouts and workout routes.

Does Oura work with Apple Health on Android?

No. Apple Health is an iPhone app, and Oura's Apple Health integration is for iOS only.

Why do Oura graphs look different in Apple Health?

Oura says Apple may round values or use different time intervals, so sleep stage and heart rate graphs can look different in each app even when the data synced.
