Short answer
Google retired the Fitbit Web API that other apps used. Find each app under Connections > Partner apps > Needs Action in Google Health and reconnect it.
Your apps stopped syncing with Fitbit because Google retired the Fitbit Web API, the interface that other apps used to sync Fitbit data, in October and November 2026. Each app must move to the new Google Health API, and you must then reconnect it in Google Health, formerly called Fitbit, or in the app itself.
What changed, and when
Google's two pages give different dates for the end of support, so this table gives each date with its page:
| Date | What Google says | Page |
|---|---|---|
| 30 September 2026 | Support for the Fitbit Web API ended. The API kept working, but Google no longer fixed bugs. | Developer page |
| 30 October 2026 | Fitbit Web APIs are no longer supported, and Fitbit connections retired. Google asked users to reconnect before this date to keep syncing without interruption. | Help page for users |
| 2 November 2026 | Google's developer page gives this as the day the Fitbit Web API and the old Fitbit sign-in turn off. It says that requests to them will fail. | Developer page |
Steps
Find the apps that need action
- Open Google Health on your iPhone. At the top left, tap Connections. MyFitnessPal's page calls this button the Phone icon.
- Tap Partner apps: the list of other apps linked to your account.
- Look at the list under Needs Action. Google says that an app that is not marked is already up to date, and needs no action.
Follow the section that matches the label under the app's name.
Reconnect from Google Health
- If "Tap to reconnect" shows below an app's name, tap the name.
- Complete the re-authentication: the prompts that sign the app in to your account again.
Reconnect in the partner app
- If "Reconnect in partner app" shows below an app's name, open that app.
- In the app's settings, tap Connected apps or Integrations.
- Tap Google Health or Fitbit.
- Follow the prompts to grant permissions and reconnect.
Reconnect MyFitnessPal on iPhone
- Open MyFitnessPal. At the bottom right, tap More. If there is no More menu, tap your profile icon at the top right.
- Tap Apps & Devices then Google Health. Tap Connect.
Step 2
Where to tap
- Apps & Devices
- Google Health
- Follow the prompts. When the prompts ask for a Google Account, select the account that you use with Google Health.
- Tap More or your profile icon again. Scroll down and tap Steps. Select Google Health, so that MyFitnessPal uses your Fitbit steps.
You can also start from Google Health. At the top left, tap Connections. Tap Partner apps. Scroll down to Add connections. Tap MyFitnessPal. If you have trouble connecting in the iPhone app, MyFitnessPal recommends that you connect on its website, and says that the connection then transfers to the app.
If Google Health data does not reach MyFitnessPal
MyFitnessPal says that data that reaches Google Health should update in MyFitnessPal within 15 minutes. If it has not after a few hours, disconnect and reconnect the two apps:
- On the MyFitnessPal website, click the Apps tab. Click Google Health. Click Disconnect.
- In Google Health, at the top left, tap Connections. Tap Partner apps. Tap MyFitnessPal. Tap Disconnect.
- Wait 15 minutes.
- On the MyFitnessPal website, not in an app, reconnect Google Health.
- On the Apps tab, check that Google Health shows under Your Apps.
- On the Steps tab of the Apps page, select Google Health as your step source.
If it still doesn't work
- New data from your Fitbit does not show in Google Health
Google's troubleshooting steps say to make sure that your Fitbit syncs with your account. See why your Fitbit is not syncing with Google Health.
- Fitbit data does not reach MyFitnessPal
Follow the steps in "If Google Health data does not reach MyFitnessPal".
- The app has no option to reconnect
Google says that the app's developer has not released its update yet. Contact the app's customer support, or check its community forums, to find out when its update will be available.
- MyFitnessPal food stopped reaching Google Health after you reconnected
One member on Reddit's r/fitbit forum reported this, and other members replied that it was happening to them too. The account GoogleHealthSupport suggested that the member contact Google Health support by phone or chat. Google's help page says that its support can't fix a broken connection. It also says to contact the app's developer about trouble syncing with another app. So contact MyFitnessPal as well. MyFitnessPal's reconnect steps cover data that moves from Google Health to MyFitnessPal. Its page does not say that they fix food moving the other way.
- A workout arrives with no details
One member on r/fitbit reported that, after they reconnected Peloton for the 30 October deadline, a Peloton workout showed only "Stationary Bike" and no other data. A member who replied asked whether the reconnect had asked for detailed permissions, such as heart rate and distance. When you reconnect, read each permission prompt and grant the data that you want the app to send. To see the prompts again, disconnect and reconnect the app, as in the next bullet.
- A reconnected app still does not sync
Google's fix is to disconnect the app and reconnect it. In Google Health, tap Connections then Partner apps. Tap the app. Scroll and tap Disconnect. Reconnect it in the app's settings, as in "Reconnect in the partner app". If it still fails, Google says to contact the developer of the app.
- Strava activities no longer reach Google Health
Google says that activities that you log in Strava no longer sync to Google Health through the Strava connection. On iPhone, Google Health can import them if you connect both Google Health and Strava to Apple Health.
- Some Google Health activities no longer reach Strava
The Strava connection now sends each activity type from Google Health to Strava, but Google says that if you do not update the connection, only bikes, runs, hikes and walks with GPS keep syncing. To update it, open Google Health. At the top left, tap Connections. Tap Partner apps. Tap Strava. Follow the prompts to update the connection.
Why this happens
Google says that the Fitbit Web API is now called the Google Health API, rebuilt on Google's own infrastructure. The move also replaces Fitbit's sign-in with Google's sign-in, Google OAuth 2.0.
Questions
Can I still reconnect an app after 30 October 2026?
Google set that date for reconnecting without interruption. It says that once the app updates and you reconnect, new data syncs again, and that the app's developer must enable the reconnection.
Will I lose my Fitbit history when an app stops syncing?
No, Google says. Data that already synced to your Google Health account is safe and won't be deleted. MyFitnessPal says that after you connect, only future information transfers, and that it does not send historical meal data to Google Health.
Do apps that share data through Apple Health need to reconnect?
No. Google says that if you use Apple Health, these changes do not affect you, and your data keeps syncing as usual.
Can Google Health Support fix a broken connection?
No. Google says that Google Health Support can't restore or fix a broken connection after Fitbit connections retired on 30 October 2026.
