Short answer
Sign in to Google Takeout with your Google Account, keep Google Health selected, and select Create export to get your Fitbit data. Google emails you a link.
Google exports your Fitbit data, such as activity, exercise, sleep and heart rate, as part of your Google Health data, through Google Takeout: Google's page for downloading the data of the Google products you use. Google says that after May 19, 2026, you can no longer access Fitbit with a Fitbit account, so you sign in with your Google Account.
Three ways to export your Fitbit data
For a full copy, use Google Takeout. For one GPS workout, export it from the Google Health app. To keep your data in Apple Health on iPhone and export it from there, connect the two apps.
| Way | What you get | What it leaves out |
|---|---|---|
| Google Takeout (steps 1 to 9) | A copy of your Google Health data in an archive: the file or files that hold your data | Google says the archive may not include changes that you make between your request and the archive |
| One workout (steps 10 to 12) | One GPS exercise as a TCX (Training Center XML) file, which Google says displays GPS data as activities; XML is a common format for sharing data between apps | Your other data |
| Apple Health on iPhone (steps 13 to 18) | The data types that Google Health writes to Apple Health, in Apple's XML export | Data types that Google does not list as written to Apple Health. Google's page does not say whether data from before the connection is written. |
Google's Apple Health page lists these data types, among others:
| Data type | Google Health can write it to Apple Health |
|---|---|
| Steps, exercise, weight | Yes |
| Sleep sessions and sleep stages | Yes |
| Heart rate and resting heart rate | Yes |
| Heart rate variability | No: Google lists it only as data that Google Health reads |
Steps
Google Takeout
- In a web browser, sign in to your Google Account.
- Go to the Google Takeout page. Google selects the products that hold your data.
- Check that Google Health is selected. To download only Google Health, uncheck the box beside each other product.
- If Google Health shows a button such as All data included, select it to leave out part of your data. Uncheck the data that you do not want.
- Select Next step.
- Under Delivery method, select Send download link via email. Add to Drive is another choice, but Google says the archive then counts toward your Drive storage.
- Under Export type, select One-time archive.
- Under File type, select Zip files. Choose a maximum archive size. Select Create export. Google says Zip files open on almost any computer. A larger export comes as several archives of that size.
- In the email that arrives, select Download archive.
One workout
- Open the Google Health app. Tap the Fitness tab.
- Tap the activity that you want to export.
- Tap More then Export. Share or save the file.
Step 3
Where to tap
- More
- Export
Through Apple Health on iPhone
- Check that your iPhone runs iOS 16.4 or later. Google also asks you to sign in to the Google Health app with an adult Google Account.
- In the Google Health app, at the top left, tap Connections then Apps and services. Under Add connections, tap Apple Health. Tap Get started.
Step 2
In the Google Health app
- Connections
- Apps and services
- On the page titled Sync Google Health with Apple Health, tap Agree. Tap Turn All Categories On, or tap the checkbox beside each data type that you want. Tap Allow. On the confirmation page, tap Done.
- Before you export, check that Google Health writes to Apple Health. Open the Health app on your iPhone. Tap Browse then Activity then Steps. Scroll down. Tap Data Sources & Access. Look for Google Health in the list. Apple says only the sources that write to that data type appear there.
Step 4
In the Health app
- Browse
- Activity
- Steps
- In the Health app, tap Summary. Tap your picture or initials.
- Tap Export All Health Data. Choose how to share the file. Apple exports all of your Health data, not only Google Health's.
If it still doesn't work
- You still sign in with a Fitbit account
Google's export page still gives steps for this sign-in: on the Fitbit settings page, click Data Export under the Settings menu. Google's account page says these sign-ins ended after May 19, so these steps may not work. Google's account page gives July 15, 2026 as the date it begins processing data deletions. It says the process will take some time, and that some users may be able to move their accounts during this period. To try the move, open the Google Health app and sign in with your Fitbit account. If a notification to move your account appears, follow the on-screen instructions. Google says you keep all the historical data that you choose to move.
- Google Health is not in the list at step 16
Follow the fixes for Google Health not syncing to Apple Health before you export.
- The archive does not download
Google suggests that you select fewer products, choose a smaller archive size in step 8, or export to a storage site such as Box.
- Your account is deleted
Google says that data is not available for deleted accounts.
What the export holds
One member on r/fitbit reports that a Fitbit export holds JSON files, a data format for apps, and CSV files, plain tables of values. The files cover sleep, heart rate, steps, weight and more, and the member reports that the CSV files open in any spreadsheet. The same member reports that most apps import only a few data types, and that few take a Fitbit export directly. Before you move to another app, check its import pages.
Questions
Does downloading Fitbit data delete it from Google?
No. Google says that a download of your Google data does not delete it from Google's servers.
How long does a Google Takeout export take?
Google says it can take from a few minutes to a few days, depending on the amount of information in your account. Google says most people get the link the same day that they ask for it.
Can Google Takeout export Fitbit data on a schedule?
Yes. Under Export type, choose Scheduled exports instead of One-time archive. Google then makes an archive of the data that you selected every 2 months for one year, and makes the first archive at once.
