Data moves from Google Fit to Google Health.

Short answer

Google says it will invite Fit users to move their data to the Google Health app later in 2026. Until then, keep using Fit and save a copy with Google Takeout.

On 7 May 2026 Google announced the Google Health app, which replaced the Fitbit app from 19 May 2026. Google said: "We'll invite Google Fit users to migrate their data into Google Health app later this year." It has not published a date for those invites.

Steps

  1. Download a copy of your Fit data. Sign in at https://takeout.google.com, uncheck the products you don't need and leave Fit selected, then tap Next step.
  2. Choose a delivery method, a one-time export and a file type (Zip opens almost anywhere), then tap Create export. When the email arrives, download the archive: it expires after about 7 days.
  3. On Android, open Health Connect. On Android 14 and later it's in Settings then Security and privacy then Privacy Controls then Health Connect. On Android 13 and earlier, install Health Connect from the Play Store.

    Step 3

    In the Android Settings

    1. Settings
    2. Security and privacy
    3. Privacy Controls
    4. Health Connect
  4. In Google Fit, tap Profile then Settings, then under Health Connect turn on Sync Fit with Health Connect.

    Step 4

    In the Google Fit

    1. Profile
    2. Settings
  5. To see that data in the Google Health app, open Google Health and tap Connections then Partner apps. Under Add connections, tap Sync your favorite health apps then Set up, choose the data to sync and tap Allow.

    Step 5

    In the Google Health

    1. Connections
    2. Partner apps

    or

    In the Google Health

    1. Sync your favorite health apps
    2. Set up
  6. When Google's invite to move your Fit data arrives, follow it in the Google Health app.

If it still doesn't work

  • Takeout export failed

Google suggests trying again, or exporting one product at a time.

  • Fit data isn't in Google Health

Permissions are needed on both sides of Health Connect: Fit must be allowed to write a data type and Google Health must be allowed to read it. In Google Health, check Connections then Partner apps then Manage Health Connect for a Synced time.

  • Only recent data arrived

A newly connected app can see the last 30 days of Health Connect data plus new data. Google Health asks separately for access to past data, so allow it when asked.

  • Google Health asks for a Google Account

A Fitbit login must be moved to a Google Account first.

Why this happens

Google is consolidating its health and fitness apps into Google Health. Health Connect stays as Android's on-device store that apps share data through, and Google Health reads steps, exercise, sleep and heart rate from it.
